FTB is a new mod for Minecraft, and is a stand-alone download. The mod is the first official Mod on the server but is not actually “official” by Minecraft’s creators, at least not yet. I suppose technically, since it’s a mod, it technically doesn’t have anything to do with the game itself? But still… it’s a great new feature and one that many players are really looking forward to. So, what exactly is FTB?
FTB stands for “ftersmod”, which is part of the name of the mod creator. It is a simple mod, and while it does a few things that may appeal to the hardcore mining player, it does not change the fundamental gameplay of the game itself. Basically, it offers the same features that other mods have, such as custom ore dictionary, configurable ore respawn rates, and more.
What makes this mod so well-liked, though, is that it removes the tedious task of having to mine for all sorts of items you need, then placing them in a blueprint. Right from the start, when you download and install FTB, it will automatically place the items you mine into the right slots of your furnace or inventory panel, saving you precious time! When you choose the one you want to harvest, just select it from the ore panel, and then, while holding the “shift” key, click on the mouse to pick up and place it in the slot. You simply repeat this process whenever you need an item. This feature takes much of the monotony out of mining for various ores and stones.
For those who have trouble following the minecraft recipe book, this mod has an automated version of it. Just like the vanilla version, when you click on the “recipe” icon, it will give you the recipe that you can copy and paste. Copy and paste recipes make farming for harder ores and stones much faster. For those who like more challenge, there’s another recipe added which allows you to break large solid blocks such as bricks or stone.
Many people are also enjoying the increased durability that is provided by using a FTB forge. When using one of these tools, the chance of your tool or weapon breaking significantly goes down. This includes even the hardest iron ingots, as well as many other rarer metals. With this feature, you can expect your forge to be able to withstand many more hours of wear and tear, allowing you to get more production done in the same amount of time.
Overall, this is a great mod that many players have found to be very useful. Not only does it provide you with a way to get all sorts of ores and other materials for your forge, it also speeds up the mining process in general. If you love the idea of being able to mine more resources for little effort, then this is definitely something worth checking out. Just don’t forget to use the FTB ranks forge ore calculator, though, because this will help you figure out exactly how much you’ll be able to earn from each type of ores and block along the way.
