One of the very first things you learn in the Minecraft mod, is how to build and install server signs. I’m sure you’ve seen the many servers out there that have some kind of server sign up box where players can place their names and such. While this is a great way to promote your server, it can also be a source of grief and annoyance for those who are not familiar with the game at all. This is why it is so important to understand what server signs are and why they are important.
To start, let’s talk about the server sign up box. You will see this when you first log into the game. It will be like the classic “sign up box” that you find in many games. This will be the message box that you see when you click on any game menu or game option. When you have finished creating your user name and choosing your password, the sign up box will appear.
Now you will need to select your server name. You may either enter it as is or choose the server you are currently playing on. If you are using a vanilla server, then you would just type “minecraft” as the server name. In this example, I have chosen to use “oregano”. Make sure that you do not include spaces in your server name, or else you will make your character say “Minecraft!”
When you have finished entering your server details, you will then be guided through a registration process. The one I used was very easy. I just went to the sign up box and chose my user name, password and verification code. Once done, I clicked “Submit” and my name, password and verification code were placed in the server’s registry. This took a few minutes and I was ready to begin playing!
I also discovered that there is a “crafting” chat that allows me to tell other players what I am doing in the game. The great thing about these is that I can keep track of all of my creations. This is very useful if you like crafting or creating things in the game.
You can see how easy it was to sign up for an OREgano server! You do not have to be an IT expert to do it; the instructions are simple enough for anyone to follow. My little secret for enjoying this server even more is to add a “crafting” chat box on my gaming console!
